We decided to spend a long weekend in Nashville on a whim. “Do you remember the Netflix’s Master of None episode where he takes his date to Nashville ? It looks like fun: lots of live music bars, cowboy boots and a good vibe” says my friend, Claire “do you want to take some days off to explore the city ?”. This is how our South exploration started. Little did we know about how much we would fell for East Nashville area, a still ungentrified neighbourhood and the hub of the town’s creative class . A neighbourhood vibe that feels like the first days of spring.
Urban Cowboys B&B opened his doors in March 2016. It was so new that we couldn’t experiment this accommodation by ourselves. But we can confirm it has the unique East Nashville feel. The B&B is set in a 19th-century Victorian house with eight guest rooms, all embracing a Southwestern, Art-Deco, boho style. With common areas inviting guest to connect, it’s not only the best place to make friends but also the perfect spot to explore all the exciting eat-drink-shop- have fun places the district has to offer. You don’t need a car as everything is at a walking distance.
East Nashville, as well as a lot of other places in the city, takes the farm to table concept very seriously. From brunch to dinner and drinks, you will be delighted with the creativity of the dishes and menus that change every season (some of them every day).
But, coffee first. Barista Parlor like most of the restaurants and shops in the area, took over an industrial abandoned building and transformed it into a beautifully designed place where art and commerce meet. In this huge former transmission repair shop, you can drink locally sourced coffee (yes, imported from other American places), listen to music (vinyl only!), chat with the friendly staff and the neighbourhood’s creative class or just enjoy a moment of peace and quietude, taking some time before exploring more.
For the best locally sourced brunch in the area, try Marché Artisan Food. We loved their delicious pancakes and the sunny feel good vibes of the place. If you like a quick bite and Mexican flavours, Mas Tacos Por Favor is a neighbourhood institution. Are you fond of Mexican soups? Then “La sopa des tortillas” is a must. Check the opening hours to make sure you are on time to test out this delicious menu.
For drinks, the new Luca Bar is an excellent choice. They have an exquisite wine selection, a great cocktails list and small plates to share. The bar is beautifully decorated, with a mix of gold, wood and ceramic design mix. In the evening, The Tree House – the coolest wooden restaurant in the area – is inviting you to take a seat, for a special dinner, (more) drinks and music. Embracing the farm to table philosophy, you will be delighted with the variety of dishes and the wonderful ambience.
Launched in 2015, Two Son is a multi brand boutique with an depurated L.A. look that somehow makes you feel welcome and zen. You can find a beautiful collection of high quality American and international designer clothes with minimalistic cuts. We’ve fallen in love with their shoes collection. For unique vintage pieces, Local Honey is a must see. They have an amazing collection and we can guarantee, you will not leave the store with empty hands. As a plus, they are also a hair salon; a surprising 2 in 1 concept that should be on everyone’s to-do lists. Looking for bohemian look and home decor inspiration? Visit Sister and Nature boutique, offering a beautiful selection of fair trade and made in USA objects and clothes. They probably have the best collection of home-made candles in the world.
LISTEN TO MUSIC
Music is the cultural pillar of the neighbourhood, you can feel it and you can hear it everywhere. Almost all places in East Nashville have beautiful live music bands program. Don’t miss The Basement Nashville with their eclectic band line up and The 5 spots venue; your ears will say thank you. Local tip: at The 5 Spots, the best, groovy nights are Mondays. Because East Nashville never sleeps and its cheerful community isn’t either.
